1. domestic a. 本國的，國內的；家用的；家庭的
　　Washington responded by freezing the price of domestic oil.

　　My value for domestic tranquility should much exceed theirs.
　　我應該遠比他們重視家庭的平靜生活。
　　2. constant a. 不變的，恒定的 n. 常數
　　In our world nothing seems constant.
　　在我們這個世界上似乎沒有東西是永恒不變的。
　　The speed of light is an important constant.
　　光速是一個重要的常數。
　　3. cliff n. 懸崖，峭壁
　　The sea had undermined the cliff.
　　海水侵蝕了懸崖的基部。
　　4. authority n. 權威；當局
　　We see him as an authority on the subject.
　　我們把他看作為這方面的權威。
　　The new building must be financed by the local authority.
　　新大樓的建筑資金必須由地方當局提供。
　　5.audio a. 聽覺
　　Students is very interested in the audio-visual instruction.
　　學生們對視聽教學非常感興趣。
　　6. attitude n. 態度
　　 attitude后常接towards/to，指“對于……的態度，看法”，如her attitude towards/to the question（她對這個問題的看法）。
　　值得注意的是，因上面例子中的賓語是question，有時候可以用on代替to，如her attitude on the question。
　　She shows a very positive attitude to her work.
　　她工作態度非常積極。
　　7. community n. 社區，社會
　　Everyone should invest some time in community service.
　　每個人都應該花些時間在社區服務上。
　　The welfare of the community is the same as the welfare of its members.
　　社會的福利就等于其成員的福利。
　　8. commit vt. 犯（錯誤，罪行等），干（壞事等）
　　commit oneself to doing something 使自己不得免于
　　They committed outrages on innocent citizens.
　　他們對無辜的市民犯下了暴行。
　　9. comment n. /vt. 評論
　　He made no comments on our proposal.
　　他對我們的建議沒有作評論。
　　He commented that it was an excellent film.
　　他評論這電影很精彩。
　　10. distinguish vt. 區分，辨別
　　詞義辨析：distinguish, discern, discriminate
　　distinguish: 普通用詞，指辨別者的能力或實際觀察到的區別，強調辨別所需的技巧。
　　discern: 語義較籠統，著重精深與準確的觀察力，不一定有能力辨別關系密切的各項事物。
　　discriminate: 語氣強，指從十分相似的事物中辨出差異，尤其把好壞區分開來。
　　Speeches distinguish human beings from animals.
　　人類和動物的區別在于人會說話。
